II. How We Collect Personal Information
A. Information Collected Automatically
We log each website visitor's domain and IP address automatically. This information does not identify you as an individual, but only the computer that is being used to view the site. We use this information (such as the type of browser used, the type of operating system used, and the domain name of the Internet service provider) for internal statistical analysis only, such as to see where the website is being used geographically. We do not link the information automatically logged by such means with any personally identifiable data about you.
B. Information Collected Through Cookies
C. Information You Submit to Us
When you request information from us through this website, or if you use those features of the site that allow you to communicate with us by electronic mail or otherwise, we will need some of your personal information to respond to your request. If, therefore, you choose to use these features, you will need to provide us with certain personal information necessary in order for us to communicate with you. Note that you are under no obligation to provide us with this information, but without it, we will not be able to take the action requested.
For example, we will need your personal information in order to send you firm newsletters, advisories, or notices of our seminars or other events (“Arnold & Porter Materials”). For this purpose, we collect such information as your name, address, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address. We collect this information only to accommodate your requests
In requesting your personal information in order to fulfill your request to receive Arnold & Porter Materials in electronic format, we require that you click on an “I accept” button at the relevant part of the site to communicate your consent to the use of your personal information to accommodate your request. You will be given an opportunity to unsubscribe from receipt of Arnold & Porter Materials in electronic format on each occasion that we contact you by email.
Note that some Arnold & Porter material is distributed by ordinary post, and, from time to time, we may also send to you by post Arnold & Porter Materials that may interest you. If you do not wish to receive Arnold & Porter Materials by ordinary post, please let us know.
If you are interested in applying for a job at the firm and choose to submit your personal and employment information by email or our online application system, we will use it only for the internal application review process. Note that we retain all unsuccessful applications for a certain period of time (usually 6 to 12 months), and during that time, unless you ask us not to, we will also keep your resume (CV) under review in the event that a suitable new vacancy arises in which you might be interested.
If you are an Alumnus or Summer Student, there are certain areas of our site reserved for your exclusive use. In order to access these areas, you will need to register. You will be asked to create an Alumni/Summer Associate account (as appropriate), which will require that you input some personal information including your name, address, telephone number, email address, month/day of birth, and [year of graduating class]. Upon registration, we will submit to you a unique password and username that will enable you to log in to these relevant [reserved] aspects of the site. We will provide you with the means to ensure your personal information is correct and to select which personal data is visible to other authorized users of the site. Arnold & Porter will use your information together with other information for the following purposes to: 1) authenticate you when you attempt to access the alumni network site; 2) publish a list of Arnold & Porter alumni on the alumni network site; 3) maintain current information that allows us to effectively administer alumni services and programs; 4) ensure the alumni network site is relevant to the needs of our alumni, and to aid us in publishing content that is most relevant to you and other alumni; and 5) communicate directly to you the information, notifications, or newsletters you request from the alumni network site. If you prefer not to share with other authorized alumni network site users any of your personal information other than your name, Arnold & Porter information (last office location, title upon departure, and start/end dates), and higher education (graduation year, degree, and schools attended), please let us know and we will ensure that such other information is not accessible on the website.
You may request at any time that we correct or delete your personal information in our database. To request such correction or deletion, please contact our Data Administrator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
