Mr. Stern is a partner in the firm's Washington, DC office, specializing in complex civil and criminal litigation. He has extensive trial experience, having served as lead counsel in over forty jury trials and numerous appeals. Mr. Stern has experience representing companies and individuals in a broad range of litigation matters, including antitrust, products liability, and consumer class action litigation. He was recently recognized for his antitrust practice in the Legal 500, which commented: "'An excellent trial lawyer', clients say, DC-based partner Jonathan Stern specializes in antitrust issues. Benefiting from particular focus on the pharmaceutical and high-technology industries, he is involved in the DRAM litigation for Micron Technology. Mr. Stern is also recognized in The Best Lawyers in America 2010 for Commercial Litigation.
In addition to his litigation experience, Mr. Stern also has substantial experience in compliance counseling and internal investigations. His current work in these areas includes advising companies on a range of regulatory compliance issues. He has conducted internal investigations for clients in connection with state and federal government investigations in the areas of antitrust, product safety, and False Claims Act litigation.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Stern was Chief of the Trial Division at the District of Columbia Public Defender Service. He is currently on the faculty of the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy Workshop and the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and he has served on the adjunct faculties of the Georgetown University Law Center and the George Washington University Law School. Mr. Stern received his JD degree from the New York University School of Law, and following his graduation, he was awarded an E. Barrett Prettyman Fellowship at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he practiced and taught as a Fellow from 1983-1985.
