Christopher Scanlan is a partner in the firm's labor and employment practice group. His work ranges from handling traditional labor law matters to litigating jury trials. He has served clients ranging from hospitals and health care systems to professional services firms and Silicon Valley startups.
Much of Mr. Scanlan’s practice focuses on the representation of employers in their dealings with organized labor. This includes work before the National Labor Relations Board, at the bargaining table, and in arbitration. Mr. Scanlan has also handled numerous court proceedings arising from labor disputes, including bringing affirmative claims for damages and other relief against labor unions.
In the employment litigation arena, Mr. Scanlan has successfully represented employers in jury trials, arbitrations, and administrative hearings. He has significant appellate experience, including arguments before the D.C. Circuit and Ninth Circuit U.S. Courts of Appeals —each of which secured a favorable result for his client.
In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Scanlan regularly advises clients on compliance with federal and state employment laws. He has also advised and provided counsel on the labor issues that arise in large corporate transactions.
Mr. Scanlan has been an invited speaker on a variety of topics including workplace privacy issues and defamation claims against labor unions.
From 1999 to 2000, Mr. Scanlan clerked for the Hon. Ronald M. Whyte of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. He was recognized as a Northern California Rising Star in Labor & Employment from 2009 through 2011.
