Tom Milch has taken a lead role in many high visibility environmental cleanups and disputes. For example, since 2010, he has served as one of the lead outside counsel to BP regarding the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The breadth and depth of his practice over many years have earned him a national reputation, and he has been consistently ranked in the top tier by Chambers USA and other prominent publications as a leader in the environmental field. In recent years, Mr. Milch has also taken a lead role on non-environmental government investigations and public policy issues.
He is the former Chair of the firm - a position he held for nine years. Recognizing his contribution to the firm's performance, the National Law Journal named Mr. Milch to its Washington, DC list of “Visionaries” in 2011.
Mr. Milch presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Environmental Law Institute, and he has previously served on the Board of Directors of Wildlife Trust International and RESOLVE, Inc. He has had an active pro bono practice, primarily in the areas of the environment and human rights.
Environmental Representative Matters
- BP, as lead environmental counsel with respect to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, one of the most complicated, multi-party legal proceedings in the history of environmental law. Served on BP's Legal Steering Committee for the oil spill.
- Honeywell, as lead counsel assisting on a range of environmental issues, including major cleanups (e.g., Onondaga Lake in New York State) and litigation (e.g., New Jersey chromium litigation).
- Texas Pacific Group, as environmental counsel on numerous corporate transactions.
- Atlantic Richfield Company, as lead counsel on contaminated sites in New York, Utah and Georgia.
