Jeffrey Yang leads the China Corporate & Finance practice as well as the National Security and Sanctions practice in Shanghai, where he has successfully expanded the firm's outbound offerings since joining Arnold & Porter in 2019. In 2020, Mr. Yang spent six months serving on secondment as senior corporate counsel for the Asia-Pacific region in the in-house legal department of one of the world’s premier biopharmaceutical companies.
With more than 20 years of experience advising major Chinese companies, leading multinational companies, private equity firms, and major financial institutions on a broad range of corporate, finance and commercial transactions, Mr. Yang represents clients in their cross-border M&A, joint venture, foreign direct investment, import-export, international trade, structured finance and derivatives, and syndicated and leveraged finance matters.
Mr. Yang, who previously worked with another major US law firm, also has substantial experience with capital markets transactions. He frequently represents both underwriters and issuers on IPOs, particularly for major Chinese companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and Nasdaq.
Working closely with the firm's Washington, DC office, Mr. Yang also routinely advises Chinese clients on national security and other regulatory matters, including export controls, trade sanctions and CFIUS reviews.
Mr. Yang's practice has a strong industry-sector focus in the life sciences, energy/natural resources and shipping areas. He is a member of Shanghai Bar Association’s Specially Invited Members Committee and International Trade Committee.
Mr. Yang is fluent in English, Mandarin and Shanghainese.
