Lobbyist and Environmental Attorney Anthony Samson Joins Arnold & Porter in California
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 6, 2016 -- Arnold & Porter LLP announced today that Anthony J. Samson has joined the firm as senior attorney/policy advisor in its Legislative and Public Policy Group. Mr. Samson, a registered California lobbyist, will focus his practice on advocating for companies and organizations before the California Legislature, the Governor's Office, and regulatory agencies on a broad range of issues, including those involving environmental, chemical, toxics and hazardous waste, water, and food and agricultural policy. He will also work closely with the firm's Environmental practice.
Prior to joining Arnold & Porter, Mr. Samson was an environmental and chemical lobbyist at the California Chamber of Commerce, where his responsibilities included serving as the lead advocate for Proposition 65 issues. As such, he managed an industry coalition's effort to obtain a substantial revision of the agency's proposed overhaul of the Proposition 65 warning regulations. He continues to represent the industry's response to California's recent proposals to reduce the long-established lead threshold under Proposition 65 and associated proposals. Mr. Samson was also an environmental litigator for a Sacramento boutique firm, and previously served as Deputy Environmental Attorney with the California Department of Transportation, and Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff for then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Kevin O'Neill, partner and co-chair of the firm's Legislative and Public Policy group commented, "Anthony is a great addition to Arnold & Porter's expanding legislative team and our premier environmental practice. From chemical and hazardous waste permitting and enforcement, to climate change, food and agriculture issues and the complexities of Prop 65, Anthony has a track record of success in Sacramento that is highly attractive to corporations, associations, coalitions and other clients who need help solving legislative and regulatory challenges in California. We are particularly excited about Anthony's compatibility with our existing Prop 65 team led by Trent Norris."
According to Allan Zaremberg, President and CEO of the California Chamber of Commerce, "Anthony's sharp political mind combined with his deep knowledge of California's complex environmental and chemical laws make him an expertly qualified lobbyist in both the legislative and regulatory arenas."
Mr. Samson earned a B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and a J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law, where he served as the Articles Editor of the Michigan State Law Review.
