Labor and Employment Lawyer Michael Kopp Joins Arnold & Porter in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, July 27, 2018 — Arnold & Porter announced today that Michael Kopp has joined the firm's Labor and Employment practice as counsel. Mr. Kopp, who will reside in the firm's San Francisco office, focuses his practice on federal and state court actions involving individual and class claims of employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour infractions.
Mr. Kopp has defended employers in jury trials, arbitrations, administrative hearings, class actions, and multidistrict litigation. He has first-chaired numerous grievance arbitrations involving discipline and contract interpretation, and has defended unfair labor practice charges on behalf of clients in refinery, healthcare, and transportation industries. He has also first-chaired multiple employment law actions to complete defense jury verdicts in state trial courts and has successfully defended judgments on appeal, including arguing and winning a matter of first impression under the Family Medical Leave Act before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Kopp began his career in private practice. From 2011–2014, Mr. Kopp was an Assistant Attorney General for Missouri.
Michael Kopp earned his JD from UC Berkeley School of Law, where he received the American Jurisprudence Award in Conflict of Laws and the Prosser Awards in Constitutional Law; Criminal Law; Human Dignity. He received his BA from Truman State University.
