Nicholas Lee's practice focuses primarily on complex patent litigation involving software, electrical, and medical device technologies. Over the years, he has also developed extensive experience counseling Global 500 companies on a variety of litigation and business strategies.
Nicholas has in-court experience in multiple patent litigation trials. He has argued trial motions and taken lead roles in preparing witnesses and cross-examining opposing witnesses on critical case issues. He also has significant experience in all pre-trial phases of complex patent cases. This includes developing and drafting expert reports, Markman briefs, and dispositive motions; arguing at several claim construction hearings; taking and defending depositions; managing all phases of discovery and trial preparation; and driving the development of case strategies. He has achieved positive results for clients in various jurisdictions, including California, Texas, New York, Wisconsin, Delaware, and at the Federal Circuit.
His successes earned him recognition from Managing Intellectual Property, which named him a rising star in 2018 and a notable practitioner in 2021.
Prior to law school, Nicholas enjoyed a successful career as a software engineer. He last worked at an international electronic discovery company and was responsible for designing the front-end architecture and back-end database to manage all aspects of e-discovery litigation projects. Before that, he was an engineering specialist responsible for the development of a Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) platform at a telecommunications company. This included database design and optimization, as well as programming call flow logic and back-end database stored procedures. He also developed early e-commerce platforms and worked extensively with the UCLA Biomedical Laboratory to develop mRNA pattern recognition software for use as a research tool.
While in law school, he was a student articles editor for the Loyola Law Journal and externed for the Honorable Blanche Manning in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
