Our Telecommunications, Internet, and Media team has been involved in the regulatory aspects of satellite communications services since the earliest days of satellite use, when PBS was the first television network to distribute its programming by satellite. We have represented entities offering mobile satellite communications, providers of very small aperture terminal (VSAT) services, companies offering telecommunications services to remote locations, providers of satellite-based broadband services, investors in the earliest integrated data and voice telecommunications services, and those offering direct-to-home (DTH) satellite services in various countries around the world.
In addition to providing regulatory advice and representation, we have extensive experience with commercial satellite agreements of all kinds. We have assisted with satellite and transponder procurements, launch vehicle services and launch and in-orbit insurance contracts, spectrum and slot-sharing arrangements between satellite operators, satellite backup and capacity-sharing arrangements between satellite operators in different countries, procurement of customer equipment; ground segment acquisitions and financings, and transponder and satellite capacity (space segment) lease arrangements and associated contracts covering ground segment/satellite arrangements. When necessary, including in the case of launch failures, we handle litigation matters for our clients, offering a full range of litigation services. We have also counseled international satellite operators on proposed mergers.
