Our attorneys represent the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU), an association of major life insurance professionals, in it is continuing efforts to lobby Congress and to bring congressional interest to bear on Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rulemaking authorized under Dodd-Frank. Arnold & Porter serves as outside counsel to AALU, and wrote and advised on filings with the SEC as it considers whether to adopt new rules applicable to broker-dealers and investment advisers and advised on legislative and regulatory strategy. The Obama Administration, Congress, and the SEC supported legislation to increase the duties and liabilities of brokers and dealers. Our attorneys worked with AALU to oppose any rule proposals from the SEC in this area. Key members of Congress have continued to press the agency not to move forward until all concerns are address.
