Acquisition of Instrumentarium Corp

General Electric Company
2003

Our attorneys assisted General Electric (GE) in obtaining clearance from the Department of Justice for GE's $2 billion acquisition of Instrumentarium Corporation, a medical equipment manufacturer based in Helsinki, Finland. GE Medical Systems (GEMS) and Instrumentarium both manufactured monitoring, mammography, and mobile real-time X-ray imaging (or "C-arm") equipment. Instrumentarium manufactured monitoring equipment through its Datex-Ohmeda and Spacelabs divisions. DOJ approved the deal with minimal divestiture commitments beyond those GE had already made to the European Union.
