Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine v. McDonald's Corporation, et al.
In Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine v. McDonald's Corporation, et al., our attorneys are representing six of the nation's largest quick-serve and casual dining restaurants (McDonald's, Applebee's, Chick-fil-A, Outback, TGI Friday's, and Chili's) against an animal rights group alleging failure to warn of the presence of the chemical PhIP in grilled chicken products. PhIP is created when any meat (other than organ meat) is grilled, and it is on the California Proposition 65 list as a carcinogen. The case is pending in the Los Angeles Superior Court, Complex Division. Based on the position of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which encourages thorough cooking of chicken for health reasons, we obtained a significant ruling on preemption.
