Acquisition of assets from Corcoran Gallery of Art

The George Washington University

Our attorneys advised its long-standing client, The George Washington University, in its acquisition of assets from the Trustees of The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington DC's oldest private art museum.  Under an agreement first announced in February 2014, the Corcoran transferred ownership of its historic building and its College of Art and Design to The George Washington University and custody of its art collection to the National Gallery of Art.  The Corcoran College of Art and Design will now be known as The Corcoran School of the Arts and Design within GW's Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. Our team advised on corporate, employment, and intellectual property matters; real estate considerations; and tax issues.
