Brandt Pasco Speaks on the Future of Export Control Reform

Brandt Pasco, who is a primary author of the Obama administration's export control reform agenda, was joined by Michael Froman, Deputy National Security Advisor to President Obama; Douglas Feith, former Undersecretary of Defense; and William Schneider, former Chair of the Defense Science Board and former Undersecretary of State, for a discussion on the future of export controls in the United States on July 25, 2011, at the Hudson Institute, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. This discussion offered a unique opportunity to engage with key decision makers and influential leaders in the field.

The administration has been working on Export Control Reform for nearly two years, with the latest unveiling of new rules expected to coincide with the July 19-21, 2011 Update Conference on Export Controls and Policy at the Department of Commerce. The administration is also finalizing its statutory proposals, and there are competing Republican and Democratic bills already introduced in Congress. The future of export controls in the United States is at a crossroads, with potentially enormous consequences for industry and national security, and Kaye Scholer was pleased to offer this opportunity to participate in the discussion.
