This notice sets forth the privacy policy of Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP ("Arnold & Porter") with respect to personally identifiable information gathered on this website and also describes the collection on the website of certain information that is not identifiable to a particular individual. The notice explains how we (Arnold & Porter) collect such information and the purposes for and circumstances in which we use and disclose the information. In the notice, we refer to each user of the website as "you" and his or her personally identifiable information as "your personal information."

II. Our Collection of Personal Information
A. Information You Submit

When you request information from us through this website, or if you use those features of the site that allow you to communicate with us by electronic mail or otherwise, we will need some of your personal information to respond to your request. If, therefore, you choose to use these features, you will need to provide us with certain personal information necessary in order for us to communicate with you. Note that you are under no obligation to provide us with this information, but without it, we will not be able to take the action requested.

For example, we will need your personal information in order to send you firm newsletters, advisories, or notices of our seminars or other events ("Arnold & Porter Materials"). For this purpose, we collect such information as your name, address, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address. We collect this information only to accommodate your requests

In requesting your personal information in order to fulfill your request to receive Arnold & Porter Materials in electronic format, we require that you click on an "I accept" button at the relevant part of the site to communicate your consent to the use of your personal information to accommodate your request. You will be given an opportunity to unsubscribe from receipt of Arnold & Porter Materials in electronic format on each occasion that we contact you by email.

Note that some Arnold & Porter material is distributed by ordinary post, and, from time to time, we may also send to you by post Arnold & Porter Materials that may interest you. If you do not wish to receive Arnold & Porter Materials by ordinary post, please let us know.

If you are interested in applying for a job at the firm and choose to submit your personal and employment information by email or our online application system, we will use it only for the internal application review process. Note that we retain all unsuccessful applications for a certain period of time (usually 6 to 12 months), and during that time, unless you ask us not to, we will also keep your resume (CV) under review in the event that a suitable new vacancy arises in which you might be interested.

If you are an Alumnus or Summer Student, there are certain areas of our site reserved for your exclusive use. In order to access these areas, you will need to register. You will be asked to create an Alumni/Summer Associate account (as appropriate), which will require that you input some personal information including your name, address, telephone number, email address, month/day of birth, and [year of graduating class]. Upon registration, we will submit to you a unique password and username that will enable you to log in to these relevant [reserved] aspects of the site. We will provide you with the means to ensure your personal information is correct and to select which personal data is visible to other authorized users of the site. Arnold & Porter will use your information together with other information for the following purposes to: 1) authenticate you when you attempt to access the alumni network site; 2) publish a list of Arnold & Porter alumni on the alumni network site; 3) maintain current information that allows us to effectively administer alumni services and programs; 4) ensure the alumni network site is relevant to the needs of our alumni, and to aid us in publishing content that is most relevant to you and other alumni; and 5) communicate directly to you the information, notifications, or newsletters you request from the alumni network site. If you prefer not to share with other authorized alumni network site users any of your personal information other than your name, Arnold & Porter information (last office location, title upon departure, and start/end dates), and higher education (graduation year, degree, and schools attended), please let us know and we will ensure that such other information is not accessible on the website.

B. Information Collected Automatically

We log each website visitor's domain and IP address automatically. This information identifies the computer that is being used to view the site. We use this information (such as the type of browser used, the type of operating system used, and the domain name of the Internet service provider) for internal statistical analysis, such as to see where the website is being used geographically. We do not link the information automatically logged by such means with personally identifiable data.

C. Information Collected Through Cookies

"Cookies" are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard-drive. Most pages on our site use cookies to provide web traffic statistics through Google Analytics, to allow our applications to run efficiently, and to identify if you have accepted the use of cookies from this site.  If you log in to our Alumni site, that site will use cookies to keep track of that log-in and any associated preferences. If you visit the employee section of the site, a cookie will be set to keep track of your associated preferences in that area.  You may change your cookie settings at any time.

D. Information from Minors

The Arnold & Porter website is directed at adults.  If you are under the age of thirteen, please do not provide us with any of your personal information, including your e-mail address. 

III. How We Protect and Secure Personal Information
We have implemented security policies and technical measures to protect the personal information that we have under our control, consistent with applicable privacy and security law.  These security measures are designed to prevent unauthorized access, improper use or disclosure, unauthorized modification, and unlawful destruction or accidental loss.

IV. Our Sharing of Personal Information
We use certain third-party organizations (such as mail service companies and event organizers)  ("Service Providers") to assist us in providing you with the materials you request from us and in organizing events.  If you have provided us with personal information for these purposes, we will share that information with such organizations in order that they may help us make the necessary arrangements.  We have included in our agreements with these third parties requirements that they protect the privacy and security of your personal information in strict accordance with our own privacy policy as set forth herein.

We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law or to comply with legal process.

Because the Arnold & Porter website is operated from the United States, if you submit information through our website from a location outside the United States, it will automatically be transmitted to us in the United States. Some of our Service Providers as described above in this section are also situated in the United States.  Note that although the United States does not provide the same levels of data protection as provided in the EU, all transmissions to our Service Providers are made under contract, prohibiting misuse of the data and requiring strict confidentiality. We are committed to only transferring information to Service Providers who offer privacy safeguards for our client data.  By clicking the "I accept" button at the relevant part of the site where you offer your information in return for information, goods, products and services, you consent to such transfer.  Note that you are under no obligation to agree to this, and if you are located outside the United States and do not want your personal information to be transferred to the United States, please do not provide us with such information. We do not permit third parties to conduct online tracking of visitors to our website.

V. Effective Date and Policy Modifications
This policy is effective as of January 1, 2017. We reserve the right to modify this privacy policy as may be appropriate.  If such modification includes any significant, material changes, we will provide notice of the update on the homepage of our website.  You should check the policy frequently to ensure that you are familiar with its current content.
