Rachel Carpman is an attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property and Trademark practice group whose practice focuses on media, entertainment and intellectual property law. As a litigator, Rachel represents clients in trademark and copyright claims and defends clients across the worlds of media, technology, and pharmaceutical goods against claims of defamation and other publication torts.
In addition to her litigation practice, Rachel routinely advises media and tech companies regarding their fair use of copyrighted works, parody as used in entertainment programs, commentary in the context of news and entertainment, and branding issues. She provides production advice and pre-publication review for unscripted television programs.
Rachel maintains an active pro bono practice centered on First Amendment litigation.
Rachel graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was awarded the Lee C. Bollinger prize for excellence in the study of the First Amendment and served as the executive notes editor for the Michigan Technology Law Journal Review. She also holds an MFA from the Yale School of Drama.
