Kevin Cline's practice focuses on complex product liability and mass tort litigation. He represents major pharmaceutical companies in defending against product liability claims in state and federal court. Kevin is involved in all aspects of this litigation, including coordination of defense counsel across jurisdictions, discovery strategy, development of fact and expert witnesses, and trial preparation and strategy. He also represents clients on matters related to potential and on-going federal and state government investigations related to marketing and promotional activities. As part of his practice, Kevin has extensive experience identifying and working with a wide array of medical and science experts.
Kevin also maintains an active pro bono practice. Most recently, he served as trial counsel in a landmark case which successfully challenged Alabama’s use of nitrogen asphyxiation as a method of execution as cruel and unusual under the Eighth Amendment, resulting in a permanent injunction in favor of his client. Kevin was a key member of the appellate team which obtained a favorable ruling in the 11th Circuit and a denial of the State’s motion to vacate the injunction before the U.S. Supreme Court. Kevin has also litigated a wrongful death suit against city and state police officers and represented an indigent criminal defendant in a first-degree homicide case in D.C. Superior Court.
Before joining the firm in 2005, Kevin served as a law clerk to the Honorable Deborah K. Chasanow of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. He received his J.D. with honors from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he served as Senior Articles Editor of The Business Lawyer. Upon graduation, Kevin was awarded the Order of the Coif and selected by the law school faculty as the 2004 recipient of the Samuel Allen Memorial Prize, recognizing excellence in scholarship and leadership.
