Melissa Lovell

Client Guidelines Attorney

Melissa Lovell advises the firm on compliance and risk management issues, particularly with respect to client contract terms related to business acceptance, legal ethics and professional responsibility, and firm policies and practice. She provides strategic analysis of firm-generated client retention documents and client engagement requirements, including outside counsel guidelines (OCGs) and master legal services agreements (MSAs), to identify and resolve provisions that may be inconsistent with the firm's ethical obligations, business objectives, or risk tolerance. Melissa collaborates closely with firm leadership, including the Director of Professional Responsibility, the Office of General Counsel, Relationship Partners, and other client service and compliance professionals to implement and monitor policies governing client engagements across the firm's domestic and global offices.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Lovell spent more than 20 years in legal research and knowledge management roles at large and boutique law firms, supporting business development, competitive intelligence, and strategic research initiatives. She also served as a Law Clerk with the District of Columbia Bar's Office of Disciplinary Counsel, where she developed significant experience in legal ethics and the rules of professional responsibility governing the attorney-client relationship.
