Israel Quoted in Bloomberg, Law360, The Washington Post on EPA Enforcement During Coronavirus Pandemic

March 20, 2020

Arnold & Porter partner Brian Israel, who chairs Arnold & Porter's Environmental practice, was quoted in national media outlets including Bloomberg, Law360 and The Washington Post discussing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on environmental law enforcement.

Israel was quoted in a recent Bloomberg article that examines the potential effects of social distancing and nationwide self-quarantine on EPA field inspections. The article was also published by The Washington Post. He was subsequently quoted in another Bloomberg article that projects the ramifications for companies invoking force majeure provisions in settlement agreements.

Israel has stated that many facilities will request and obtain a delay in certain obligations due to legitimate difficulties caused by employees or contractors unable to come to work or supply chain disruptions. This will not apply across the board, according to Israel, but there are circumstances where it will make sense. Israel was also quoted in a related Law360 article that explains how law firms can address these kinds of concerns for their clients.
