April 18, 2022

Appellate and Supreme Court partners Elisabeth Theodore and Stanton Jones were quoted in a recent article from The National Law Journal, “Why Big Law Gets Involved in the Voting Rights and Gerrymandering Fight.” The article highlights several firms, including Arnold & Porter, on their efforts against gerrymandering and the fight for voting rights. Theodore and Jones were featured in the article for their team’s efforts to challenge voter suppression tactics.

“Gerrymandering and other denials of voting rights, systematically deny the ability of people to actually control their government. You end up with a lot of really skewed policies, and with governments that don’t really reflect what the people want. And I think that’s fundamentally unfair,” said Theodore.

Jones, speaking on the firm’s history of voting rights litigation, notes that while the firm makes an enormous commitment of pro bono resources to this work, some matters receive external financial support “[allowing] us to do even more of the work than we could if it were exclusively pro bono.”
