Vibbert Quoted in Global Data Review on FTC’s New Rulemaking Process
Privacy, Cybersecurity & Data Strategy practice head Jami Vibbert was quoted in the recent Global Data Review article, “FTC’s rulemaking could have economy-wide implications.” The article discusses the US Federal Trade Commission’s recent notice of proposed rulemaking related to company’s privacy and cybersecurity practices.
Vibbert said she expected the FTC to cover the personal data of consumers in its proposed rulemaking, but not employee or business-to-business data. She noted that the broad scope on which the FTC requested comments, including regarding purpose limitations and limitations related to specific industries, could change how the US deals with data broadly, if the suggestions are adopted into a final agency rule.
