Kevin McCarthy Ousting Leaves Advocacy Work Uncertain
Kevin O’Neill, chair of the Legislative & Public Policy practice group, was recently quoted in The National Law Journal article, “With House Speaker Ousted, Law Firm Lobbying Shops Navigate 'Uncharted' Waters.” The article discusses how law firms are navigating Kevin McCarthy’s recent removal as speaker of the House of Representatives. The removal has interrupted the House’s core legislative functions, which has left client advocacy work uncertain as a result.
O’Neill told The NLJ that clients “really dislike uncertainty” in terms of how Congress will impact their businesses. “When you are engaged on high-value policy issues in Washington where you’ve hired high-priced, knowledgeable people to advocate your interests with a sense of urgency, sailing into uncharted waters leaves the client uncomfortable,” he said.
