Removal of Oil Sanctions Illustrates Way Forward in U.S.-Venezuela Relationship

Senior International Policy Advisor and former U.S. Ambassador Thomas A. Shannon, Jr., was featured in The Wall Street Journal article, “Venezuela’s Economy Poised to Strengthen With Sanctions Relief.” The article discusses the Biden Administration’s recent removal of U.S. sanctions against Venezuela’s oil sector.

Shannon told The Wall Street Journal that the sanctions severed communications between the U.S. and Venezuela and increased the number of Venezuelans migrating to the U.S. Discussions between the U.S. and Venezuela regarding an oil opening, migration and repatriation illustrate that “both sides are looking for a way forward in the relationship,” Shannon said.
