The Wall Street Journal Talks State Cybersecurity Authority With Jami Vibbert
Jami Vibbert, chair of Arnold & Porter’s Privacy, Cybersecurity & Data Strategy group, was quoted in The Wall Street Journal article, “Temu Lawsuits Pit States Against a Digital Superpower,” which examines recent state-led lawsuits against e-commerce company Temu and the broader implications for cybersecurity enforcement.
As more state attorneys general pursue data privacy actions traditionally handled at the federal level, Vibbert questioned whether all states are equipped to counter threats posed by foreign adversaries, calling the idea that they can effectively combat nation-state cyber threats “in many cases unrealistic.”
Vibbert noted that most state governments lack access to classified intelligence and specialized cyberforensics teams. “Without centralized coordination and intelligence, state-level interventions risk being piecemeal, duplicative or symbolic,” she said.
