Arnold & Porter Named One of FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies To Work For" For Third Consecutive Year
WASHINGTON, D.C., January 12, 2005 - Arnold & Porter LLP has been named one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" in 2005 by FORTUNE magazine. It is the third consecutive year the firm has been so named. This year, the firm ranks number 32 on the list, up from number 42 in 2004 and number 60 in 2003. The FORTUNE list is regarded as the most authoritative and prestigious ranking of its kind, largely because two-thirds of an employer's score is based on a confidential survey of employees. The list is posted on FORTUNE'S web site and will be available on newsstands January 17.
"We are honored to be re-named to FORTUNE'S 100 Best Companies list," said James Sandman, managing partner of Arnold & Porter. "We strive to provide a positive work environment for all of our employees, and are grateful for this national recognition."
Arnold & Porter has been recognized repeatedly for its family-friendly benefits and positive work environment. The firm has been named to Working Mother magazine's "100 Best Companies" list five times, most recently in 2004. The Bar Association of the District of Columbia presented its 2004 Quality of Life Award to Arnold & Porter, and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association has honored Arnold & Porter for its commitment to diversity six times, more than any other law firm in the country.
"The 100 Best Companies to Work For" list is compiled for FORTUNE by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco, based on two criteria: an evaluation of the policies and culture of each company, and the opinions of the company's employees. The latter is given more weight; two-thirds of the total score comes from employee responses to a 57-question survey, which goes to a minimum of 350 randomly selected employees from each company. The remaining one-third of the score is based on an evaluation of each company's demographic makeup, pay and benefits programs, and culture. Companies are scored in four areas: credibility (communication to employees), respect (opportunities and benefits), fairness (compensation, diversity), and pride/camaraderie (philanthropy, celebrations).
