Arnold & Porter Named To American Lawyer's "A-List" Of Top 20 Firms For Third Year In A Row

September 6, 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 6, 2005 — For the third consecutive year, Arnold & Porter LLP was named to The American Lawyer’s “A-List.” Only 20 major law firms in the U.S. make the cut each year, which is based on the publication’s formula that weighs economic success, pro bono achievement, associate satisfaction, and workplace diversity. Arnold & Porter ranked number three on the list this year.

“We are honored to be re-named to this prestigious list,” said Chairman Michael Sohn. “It’s a reflection of our core values. We are committed to a working environment where everyone can achieve his or her potential, which recognizes the obligations lawyers have to serve their communities, and which brings that commitment and spirit of working together to the service of our clients."

According to The American Lawyer, the list aims to “determine, as objectively as possible, the firms that have been able to build successful practices without abandoning the profession’s core values.” The magazine goes on to note “As our scores show, the best firms find a way to balance it all. They marry good business with good works, treat associates decently, and work hard to promote diversity.”

Arnold & Porter is widely recognized for its diversity efforts and public service accomplishments. The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has honored the firm for its pro bono work in each of the last three years. Arnold & Porter has been ranked among the top three in the nation inThe American Lawyer’s annual pro bono charts for four years running.

Earlier this year, Arnold & Porter received the Leadership Award from the Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia for the firm's leadership in improving diversity in the legal profession. The firm ranks among the top 20 law firms in the country for pro bono work and diversity of racial minorities in Vault’s Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms 2006, in addition to being on FORTUNE's list of the “100 Best Places to Work For” for three years running and on Working Mother magazine’s list of the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” on five separate occasions.
