April 28, 2006

Washington, D.C., April 28, 2006 -- Arnold & Porter announced today that technology transactions lawyer Michael Raschid has joined the intellectual property practice as a partner in the Northern Virginia office. His expertise will expand Arnold & Porter's intellectual property transactions practice, with particular focus on clients in the information technology sector.

"Michael's specific expertise in the technology sector will strengthen our IP transactional practice in the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. markets. His local and national reputation is solid, and his experience working with IT companies, venture capitalists, and defense contractors on complex transactional matters will complement our well-established mergers and acquisitions and private equity practices," said Bob Ott, head of Arnold & Porter's Northern Virginia office.

Mr. Raschid has considerable private practice experience advising a variety of clients in complex technology transactions. In practice for 20 years, he advises companies in the IT, telecommunications, and semiconductor industries. Mr. Raschid's experience includes handling joint ventures, strategic alliances, and outsourcing agreements, as well as manufacturing, marketing, and distribution arrangements. His clients range from large companies to early-stage, venture-backed companies.

In addition, he advises investors, including venture capitalists and private equity funds, on the evaluation of intellectual property and licensing matters of their portfolio companies. He has extensive experience with IP and technology aspects of mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings and spin-offs. A significant part of Mr. Raschid's practice is international in scope--structuring and negotiating cross-border ventures and marketing and distribution agreements, among other matters.

Mr. Raschid is a frequent lecturer on technology licensing topics and advised the Virginia Secretary of Technology regarding university technology transfer policies and practices. He was selected as one of America's leading business lawyers in the 2004-2005 edition of Chambers USA. He has a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Mr. Raschid joins some 85 attorneys in Arnold & Porter's intellectual property and technology group, practicing in both the U.S. and the UK. Arnold & Porter LLP, an international law firm of more than 600 attorneys, has offices in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, London, and Brussels. The firm, founded in 1946, maintains more than 25 practice areas spanning a broad spectrum of the law, with a primary focus on litigation, transactional matters, and regulatory issues.
