Michael Gerrard, Veteran Arnold & Porter Environmental Attorney, Named Head of New York Office

March 5, 2007

NEW YORK, March 5, 2007 -- Arnold & Porter LLP announced today that Michael Gerrard, one of New York's most prominent environmental attorneys, has been named head of the firm's New York office.

He will succeed John Willett, who will be stepping down as the head of the New York office after ten years on the job.  Thomas Milch, the firm's chair, said, "John has played an important role on management issues throughout his time with the firm, and his assistance has been invaluable in the operation and growth of the New York office."

Mr. Milch continued, "Mike will bring to his new role the energy and commitment that has led to his sterling reputation in the New York legal community and the international environmental bar."

Mr. Gerrard heads the firm's New York environmental practice, and has practiced environmental law in New York since 1979.  In the past few years he has emerged as a leading attorney in the field of global climate change.  He has been with Arnold & Porter since 1994.

Mr. Gerrard was the 2004-2005 Chair of the American Bar Association's 10,000-member Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources.  He has chaired the Executive Committee of the New York City Bar, and the Environmental Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.  He has been an adjunct professor at Columbia Law School and the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

Legal Media Group's Guide to the World's Leading Environment Lawyers 2005, based on 4,000 questionnaires, reported that Mr. Gerrard "received more personal nominations for this guide than any other lawyer in the world."   Mr. Gerrard also has written or edited six books, and his seventh, Global Climate Change & U.S. Law, is scheduled to be released by ABA Publishing in March.

Arnold & Porter's New York office, known for its extensive litigation practice, has in recent years expanded its transactional, securities, intellectual property and hedge fund practices.  The firm's New York attorneys represent clients in national and international arbitrations and serve as national coordinating counsel in multi-jurisdictional matters, directing the conduct of complex cases across the country.  They have advised clients in sensitive internal investigations, both national and international, and provide litigation counsel in intellectual property, white-collar crime, securities, contract, fraud, products liability and other litigation.

Commenting on his new position as the head of the New York office, Mr. Gerrard said, "Arnold & Porter has been in New York 20 years helping to resolve the complex and multi-disciplinary problems of our clients and we look forward to expanding that work in the future."

Arnold & Porter's New York office, which opened in 1987, currently has 86 attorneys.  In addition to Mr. Gerrard, who is becoming the partner responsible for the office, Stewart Aaron serves as the administrative partner of the office.
