Arnold & Porter Named to FORTUNE'S "100 Best Companies to Work For" List for Six Years Running
WASHINGTON, D.C., January 23, 2008 - Arnold & Porter LLP was named to FORTUNE's prestigious "100 Best Companies to Work For" list for the sixth consecutive year. Ranked number 19, Arnold & Porter was the most highly placed law firm on the list. The FORTUNE list is regarded as the most authoritative of its kind, in part because two-thirds of an employer's score is based on a confidential survey of employees.
"We are honored by this recognition," said Arnold & Porter Chairman Thomas Milch. "We are pleased to be able to combine challenging and exciting legal work with a positive work environment and comprehensive benefits to support the needs of our employees." Arnold & Porter was noted by FORTUNE for its paid maternity leave, profit-sharing plan for employees, and pro bono work.
The firm recently expanded its benefits to include 18 weeks of paid leave for mothers who give birth and primary caregivers of newly adopted children, and 6 weeks of paid leave for the caregiver of a seriously ill immediate family member. The firm will also continue to provide up to six weeks of paid leave for the secondary caregiver of a newborn or newly adopted child (e.g., "paternity leave"). The firm allows a total absence of 24 weeks for these circumstances, which includes the paid leave.
To determine the "100 Best Companies to Work For" rankings, FORTUNE works with Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Two-thirds of the company's score is based on the results of the survey, which is sent to a minimum of 400 randomly selected employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about the management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third of the scoring is based on the company's responses to the Institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communications, training, recognition programs, and diversity efforts, etc.
Arnold & Porter LLP, an international law firm of over 650 attorneys, has offices in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, New York, Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco, London and Brussels.
