Blechman Cited in The Globe and Mail Article on Antitrust Issues in Merger

May 13, 2009
Michael D. Blechman, Partner in the Antitrust Department, was cited in the May 13, 2009 article "Rival Makes Play for Quebecor World," which appeared in Canada's The Globe and Mail's business section, ReportonBusiness.com. The article discussed the proposed takeover of Quebecor World by its rival in the commercial printing business, R.R. Donnelly & Sons Inc.  Mr. Blechman commented on the antitrust issues in the Donnelley-Quebecor World merger and others, which are expected to be subject to increased scrutiny than under the Bush administration. "U.S. President Barack Obama's newly appointed antitrust enforcer, Christine Varney, has made it clear she intends to pursue rigorous antitrust enforcement, including mergers, said Mike Blechman, a lawyer and partner at Kaye Scholer in New York. But he said the new tougher Justice Department guidelines would probably allow some flexibility for mergers where one of the parties is weak financially, as is the case with Quebecor World."
