Arnold & Porter Elects Three Partners for 2011
Washington, DC, January 25, 2011 - Arnold & Porter LLP announced today that it has elected three new partners to the firm. The attorney promotions are in key practice areas for the firm, including environmental, FDA and healthcare, and securities enforcement and litigation. Two of the new partners are resident in New York and one is resident in Washington, DC. The promotions have been effective as of January 1, 2011.
The following individuals were elected partner:
Nelson D. Johnson is a member of the firm's environmental group and resident in the New York office. Mr. Johnson's practice focuses on litigation, regulatory counseling, land use, and transactional matters. Prior to arriving at Arnold & Porter, Mr. Johnson worked both as in-house and outside counsel representing major manufacturers of industrial products and specialty chemicals in environmental, Food and Drug Administration and Drug Enforcement Administration matters. Mr. Johnson has a degree from Columbia Law School, and obtained a doctorate in molecular biology from the California Institute of Technology. He also worked as a post-doctoral associate at Stanford University, and as a research assistant professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Dickinson R. Debevoise, US District Court, the District of New Jersey.
Vernessa T. Pollard is a member of the firm's FDA and healthcare group and resident in the Washington, DC office. Ms. Pollard advises clients on a wide range of matters including FDA and DOJ investigations and enforcement matters, product approval issues, medical device and health IT convergence issues, advertising, promotion and social media issues, FDA inspections and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) issues, recalls, and import detentions. Prior to joining Arnold & Porter, Ms. Pollard spent six years as an Associate Chief Counsel for Enforcement in the Office of Chief Counsel at the FDA, where she handled a range of compliance, enforcement, and regulatory matters involving drugs, medical devices, and dietary supplements. Ms. Pollard received several awards during her tenure at FDA, including the FDA Commissioner's Award of Excellence in 2008 and FDA Commissioner's Outstanding Service Award for Outstanding Legal Representation and Dedication in Conducting Enforcement and Defensive Litigation in 2005. She has a degree from Temple University School of Law.
Susan L. Shin is a member of the firm's securities enforcement and litigation group and resident in the New York office. Ms. Shin focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and securities enforcement and litigation, representing corporate clients in cases before state and federal courts and in arbitrations. She has handled matters involving accounting, audits, auction rate securities, books and records, compliance, disclosure, executive compensation, stock options back-dating, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, fraud, insider trading, internal controls, investments, market manipulation, mutual funds, sales and trading practices, securities offerings, and supervision. Ms. Shin is a graduate of Columbia Law School where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Raymond J. Dearie, US District Court, the Eastern District of New York.
