Arnold & Porter Named One of "100 Best Companies" by Working Mother in 2011

September 15, 2011

Washington, DC, September 15, 2011 -- Arnold & Porter LLP was again named one of the "100 Best Companies" by Working Mother magazine today. The firm has earned this recognition twelve times, including for the past eight years.

This year's winners were selected based on their family-driven programs and benefits that outpaced their competitors, including flextime hours, paid maternity leave, and employee assistance programs. Additionally, companies were selected for offering prenatal education, weight-loss, wellness, and stress-reduction programs to employees at every level.

Working Mother noted that Arnold & Porter automatically assigns mentors to all new attorneys and pairs mid-level associates with senior attorneys or partners. The magazine highlighted the firm's benefits for employees who work flextime and compressed schedules; full benefits for anyone logging 25 hours per week; an employee-wide benefit of 24 job-guaranteed weeks of maternity leave, with 18 fully paid; and an affinity group for new mothers.

Arnold & Porter will be celebrated at the Working Mother "100 Best Companies" WorkLife Congress, which will be held October 18-20, 2011, in New York City. The "100 Best Companies," as well as national comparisons, will be profiled in the October issue of Working Mother.

Arnold & Porter has been regularly recognized for its efforts to create a family friendly work place for employees, including receiving a 2010 "100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces" Award by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and being named one of the 2011 "Top 10 Family Friendly Law Firms" by Yale Law Women in its annual survey of Vault's top 100 law firms.

The Working Mother "100 Best Companies" are judged on answers to 650 questions, including data on the access and usage of flexible work arrangements, parental leave, childcare, health and wellness support and the advancement of women to all levels of management. Companies were selected based on an extensive application that surveys the usage, availability and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them. Seven areas were measured and scored for the 2011 initiative: workforce profile, benefits, women's issues and advancement, child care, flexible work, parental leave and company culture. For this year's "100 Best," particular weight was given to benefits, flexibility and parental leave.
