Arnold & Porter's Stewart Aaron Interviewed on NY1 Online about Stop-and-Frisk Laws

August 14, 2012

Washington, D.C. -- In the light of recent news surrounding the legality of stop-and-frisk procedures by the New York Police Department, Arnold & Porter's Stewart Aaron was interviewed on Inside City Hall on NY1 Online. Host Errol Louis spoke with Aaron; Thomas Giovanni from NYU's Brennan Center for Justice; Alison Wilkey, co-chair of the NYCLA's Criminal Justice Section and Senior Staff Attorney for Youth Represent and former Judge Jacqueline Silbermann.

In two recent New York cases, judges ruled that police illegally conducted stop-and-frisk procedures. Those judicial decisions were heavily criticized in the media. The video program focused primarily on how those decisions have been characterized in the media. Aaron said the Bar Association is being active in "speaking out and defending the rule of law and the role that judges play…the newspapers should be more carefully about the rhetoric they use … calling judges idiots and things of that kind have no place in the discussion."

In addition to heading the New York Office of Arnold & Porter, Aaron is president of the New York County Lawyers' Association.
