Three Arnold & Porter Partners Named to Daily Journal's 2013 'Top Labor and Employment Lawyers' List

July 18, 2013

San Francisco, CA, July 18, 2013 -- Arnold & Porter LLP San Francisco partners Dipanwita Deb Amar, David Reis, and Christopher Scanlan were recently named to the Daily Journal's list of the "Top 75 Labor and Employment Lawyers" in California.

Ms. Amar, who was previously named to the list in 2012, was noted for her representation of Port of Oakland officials, where she led an investigation into employees accused of spending government money on inappropriate perks.  She was also recognized for her representation of the Golden State Warriors basketball team in a harassment lawsuit filed in Alameda County Superior Court in 2011, where she helped settle the case in May 2012.

The Daily Journal recognized Mr. Reis, head of Arnold & Porter's labor & employment practice group, for his representation of top law firms, and especially his cross-examining skills, in defending against various employment claims.  The publication also discussed his successful defense of a major investment firm and its founder against a former employee who alleged that he was part owner of the company and entitled to a lucrative separation payment upon his departure.  Mr. Reis was named to the list in 2010 and 2011.

Mr. Scanlan was named to the list for his counsel to municipalities during health care negotiations and representation of clients in matters before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).  The Daily Journal particularly noted Mr. Scanlan's "tenacity" last year in shepherding an employee's alleged wrongful discharge dispute through the NLRB's administrative process.  He represented a local hospital in the dispute, which started in 2009 and culminated in a 2012 appellate victory in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
