National LGBT Bar Association Names Arnold & Porter's Matthew Fornataro to '40 Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40' List

July 7, 2014

Washington, DC, July 7, 2014 -- The National LGBT Bar Association has named Arnold & Porter Associate Matthew Fornataro to its 2014 “40 Best LGBT Attorneys Under 40” list, which recognizes “young LGBT legal professionals who have distinguished themselves in their field, and demonstrated a strong commitment to LGBT equality.”  The award will be presented to the honorees in New York City on August 23 during the LGBT Bar’s Lavender Law Conference.

Mr. Fornataro is a member of the firm’s FDA and Healthcare practice group, and his nomination focused both on his advising various health care entities and on the many hours he has spent during his career in providing pro bono representation for causes of importance to the LGBT community.  Mr. Fornataro's practice focuses on healthcare regulatory and compliance issues, and he routinely counsels a broad range of clients including hospitals, physician practices, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and medical device manufacturers.  His pro bono work has included a recent project in which Mr. Fornataro worked with an international contingent of attorneys to provide advice to the Southern African AIDS Trust on various policy objectives, including the implementation of HIV Self-Testing in several African countries.  Mr. Fornataro also has litigated on behalf of pro bono clients and has provided advice on issues related to HIV and sexual orientation-based discrimination.

It is the “extraordinary accomplishments” of attorneys like Mr. Fornataro, said D’Arcy Kemnitz, executive director of The LGBT Bar, “that underscore the significant talent the LGBT community brings to the legal profession, and highlight the real change our members make in the lives of their clients, their community and their country, every single day.”
