Adam Golodner Comments on DOJ Announcement of New Cybersecurity Unit

As seen in Global Investigations Review’s “Caldwell Announces New Cybersecurity Unit”

December 5, 2014

Global Investigations Review reported on the creation of an advisory Cybersecurity Unit within the US Department of Justice (DOJ), and suggested that this move indicated a willingness on the DOJ’s part to use methods beyond mere prosecution to tackle cybercrimes. These additional methods will include providing statutory guidance to law enforcement to ensure that privacy is protected; advising congress on related legislation; and embarking on a sort of “PR” campaign, with outreach to the public and private companies.

According to Kaye Scholer Partner Adam Golodner, a Partner in Kaye Scholer’s Complex Commercial Litigation Department and Leader of the firm’s Global Cybersecurity & Privacy Group, “[The unit] shows the government will not back off just because cybercrime is an international and complex threat. It will innovate new ways to address this threat, beyond just prosecution. It sends a strong message.”
