Arnold & Porter Partner Receives 2015 California Lawyer Attorney of the Year Recognition

SAN FRANCISCO, February 23, 2015 -- Arnold & Porter's Jonathan Hughes was recently named one of 62 attorneys across California to receive the 2015 California Lawyer's "Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) Award" for handling matters with "significant impact over the past year." Mr. Hughes, who worked with a team including Pamela Phillips and Diana DiGennaro based in the firm's San Francisco office, was recognized for achieving an important victory for law firms. In a ground breaking decision, a federal District Court judge reversed a decision by a bankruptcy judge and clarified that it is the client, not the lawyer, who owns the matter the client entrusts to a law firm, and that a defunct law firm's estate has no claim in bankruptcy court to recover hourly fees earned by the firm who did the work.
