Kaye Scholer to Local School Kids: “We’ve Got Your Back”

August 2015

Staff from Kaye Scholer’s Tallahassee Operations Center recently delivered 33 backpacks stuffed with new school supplies to Oak Ridge Elementary, as well as a cart full of extra school and cleaning supplies. The delivery to the Tallahassee school was the culmination of the Center’s two-week drive from July 24 to August 7 to provide backpacks and supplies to disadvantaged students at the school.

“It was heartwarming giving to kids in need and knowing we made their first day back to school a little brighter,” said senior staff accountant Barbi Miller, one of the drive organizers at Kaye Scholer.

Backpack drives are premised on the idea that every child wants to fit in at school, but showing up the first day without the basic supplies required for his or her grade makes that struggle even more difficult. The Center’s drive was part of a larger effort coordinated by The Foundation for Leon County Schools, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides its schools “with programs and resources that are not supported by tax dollars.”

The firm provided a contribution to the Center’s drive, and the staff in Tallahassee collected additional money and supplies. The entire Tallahassee office pitched in to make a big difference for many children who just needed a little help to get ready for the new year and to support teachers who often pay for classroom supplies out of their own pockets.

This is the Center’s first year doing a backpack drive since opening two years ago this past June. The Center is looking forward to helping out again next year.
