Arnold & Porter Helps LeanIn.org Launch “Together We Can” Initiative In Support of Women in the Workplace

July 14, 2016

Washington, DC, July 14, 2016 -- Arnold & Porter LLP recently helped LeanIn.org launch its latest campaign, “Together We Can,” which includes a video highlighting how women at the top of their respective fields have been helped along in their careers by female mentors and role models.  In addition to advising on Lean In’s collaboration with AOLMakers, a women’s leadership platform that co-produced the video, Arnold & Porter helped negotiate Lean In’s contracts with the celebrities participating in the video, as well as the contracts with various other third party partners, such as POPSUGAR and HULU, which are involved in supporting the campaign and distributing the campaign message.  Arnold & Porter also advised Lean In on trademark matters relating to #LEANINTOGETHER and advises on nonprofit tax matters generally.

The launch video featured the personal stories of celebrities Emma Watson, Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria, Serena Williams, Megyn Kelly, Selena Gomez and others.  In less than a week after its original posting,  the video received more than 200,000 views.  On ABC’s Good Morning America, former Facebook COO and Lean In founder, Sheryl Sandberg, explained how important the support of other women is for empowering women in the work place.  This latest initiative encourages women to be workplace allies, mentors, and role models for other women and builds upon the success of Sheryl Sandberg’s 2013 book “Lean In,” whose goal was to “empower all women to achieve their ambitions.”  To date, Lean In has facilitated the creation of 28,000 “circles” or networking and support groups in 141 countries.

Arnold & Porter’s legal team included Susan Hendrickson, Roberta Horton, James Joseph, and Vinita Kailasanath, with Elizabeth Richards providing assistance.

Arnold & Porter has a long history of supporting women in the workplace.  In 2015 and for the sixteenth consecutive year, Arnold & Porter LLP was named one of the "100 Best Companies" to work for by Working Mother magazine.
