Justice Richter Receives NYWBA Honorable Florence E. Allen Award for Trailblazing Legal Career

June 11, 2021

On June 10, 2021, Arnold & Porter senior counsel Rosalyn Richter received the Honorable Florence E. Allen Award from the New York Women’s Bar Association at a virtual award and installation ceremony. The prestigious award honors “trailblazers in the profession and extraordinary leaders” who further the NYWBA mission to “ensure the fair and equal administration of justice.” The award’s namesake broke ground as the first woman elected to a judgeship anywhere in the United States and went on to become the first woman to serve as a judge on any state’s highest court; the first woman appointed to any federal court of general jurisdiction; and the first woman to serve as Chief Judge on any federal appeals court.

Justice Richter has dedicated her career to supporting women’s issues both in and out of the judicial system. In addition to having served as co-chair on multiple New York City Bar Association committees related to advancing the rights of women and LGBTQ professionals in the legal community, she was instrumental in the effort to obtain data on women attorneys appearing as lead counsel in matters in the First Department. As a long-time member of the NYSBA, NYCBA and NYWBA, she has actively mentored many women law students and lawyers and created a high school program designed to increase the pipeline of diverse students pursuing legal careers.

At Arnold & Porter, Justice Richter represents clients in complex commercial litigation at both the trial and appellate level. With 30 years of experience as a neutral, she serves as a mediator and arbitrator and is available for moot courts and private judging in all types of matters. She also has a significant pro bono practice dedicated to advancing civil rights, including for the LGBTQ community, and increasing diversity in the legal profession.
