Law360 Names Bailey, Fayne to 2021 ‘Rising Stars’ List
Arnold & Porter International Trade senior associate Leslie Bailey and Environmental partner Zachary Fayne were named to Law360’s 2021 list of “Rising Stars.” The annual report profiles the “top legal talent under 40” whose legal talents “transcend their age.”
In Bailey’s profile, Law360 highlighted her successes on behalf of clients in trade disputes and her dedicated pro bono practice. Bailey noted that advising the government of Alberta in a dispute over Canadian lumber imports to the US was “very rewarding,” particularly since the dispute spanned nearly 40 years and had significant ramifications for “both Canadian and US forestry industries.” She joined the Arnold & Porter client team on the long-running dispute in 2018. Law360 also detailed Bailey’s arguments on behalf of Korean steel producers in a tariffs dispute, a “big milestone” in Bailey’s career that impacted how duties are calculated on Korean steel pipe imported in the US. Law360 also explained Bailey’s involvement in the firm’s important civil litigation work on behalf of pro bono clients, including as part of the Arnold & Porter team of lawyers representing Black Lives Matter protestors in Denver. In Fayne’s profile, Law360 commended his extensive environmental litigation work in high-profile and complex matters. Through his experience advising BP in work arising from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and subsequent litigation, Fayne learned that he enjoys diving into complex scientific and engineering issues and coupling that research with his “understanding of the law to better advise his clients.” Law360 also profiled Fayne’s work earlier this year obtaining a preliminary injunction for the California Chamber of Commerce that prevented new lawsuits targeting the chemical acrylamide from being filed under California’s Proposition 65. This is a landmark ruling for the food industry and creates an important precedent regarding the limits on states’ authority to compel companies to provide warnings on their products.
