Daily Journal Names Arnold & Porter Partners Amar, Reis to 2022 'Top Labor & Employment Lawyers' List

Arnold & Porter partners Dipanwita Deb Amar and David Reis were named to the Daily Journal's 2022 list of "Top Labor & Employment Lawyers." The annual supplement profiles California's "top lawyers advocating for workers and employers" and spotlights their practices.

Daily Journal’s profile of Amar highlighted her work battling collective actions filed by employees under California’s Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA). The profile noted Amar’s recent appellate victory for her client Beverages & More!, Inc. In the profile, Amar explained that PAGA is a problem because “the statute deputizes all these private individuals to seek a remedy on behalf of the state, and the state has exerted virtually no control over these claims.”

The publication also profiled Reis, who is head of the firm’s Labor and Employment practice, for continuing to handle a wide range of matters on both the labor and employment sides of his practice. Daily Journal highlighted the three-year collective bargaining agreement that Reis negotiated for a long-time client. This past year also saw Reis immersed in the area of worker classification under California’s revised tests for independent contractors, which he told Daily Journal has been a “really active area, probably more so in the last years than in my prior 27 years of practice.”
