National LGBTQ+ Bar Names Cha-Kim to its 2024 'Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40'

April 26, 2024

The National LGBTQ+ Bar Association named Arnold & Porter partner Stephen Cha-Kim to its 2024 "40 Best LGBTQ+ Attorneys Under 40" list, which recognizes LGBTQ+ legal professionals under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their field and have demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBTQ+ equality.

As a partner in the firm’s complex litigation practice, Cha-Kim represents and advises clients in international disputes and in federal and state court litigation across the United States.. He joined Arnold & Porter in 2023 after nearly eight years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), where he represented the U.S. and its agencies in civil matters involving financial and healthcare fraud, as well as civil rights, environmental, tax, regulatory, tort, national security, commercial, art and intellectual property, and international law. Cha-Kim began his career in direct legal services as a Skadden Fellow at Make the Road New York, before clerking for the Hon. James L. Cott of the SDNY and the Hon. Edmond E. Chang of the Northern District of Illinois.

Cha-Kim maintains an active pro bono practice with a focus on supporting the LGBTQ+ community. As co-counsel in a major class action alleging systemic sexual abuse and retaliation at a federal women’s prison in California, including against transgender and queer incarcerated individuals, Cha-Kim recently helped secure a preliminary injunction and appointment of a special master by the U.S. District Court — the first time such relief has been ordered at a Department of Justice facility.

Cha-Kim and the other honorees will be recognized at the Lavender Law® Conference and Career Fair taking place in August 2024 in Washington, D.C.
