VIDEOCAST Transparency Reporting Meeting the Challenge of PPACA and Beyond
After years of debate, the recent enactment of landmark healthcare legislation included a new framework - formerly known as the "Sunshine Act" -- for "transparency reporting" of transfers of value from pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers to physicians and teaching hospitals. The new law also requires reporting of company sampling activities. Numerous questions have emerged as to the implementation of these complex new requirements. Preparing for reporting, which will begin in 2013 for payments made in 2012, will be an enormous logistical task for many companies, and will raise important issues relating to company relationships with physicians. The resulting public database will be a focus of enforcement and policy scrutiny for years to come. In this video, two partners in Arnold & Porter's FDA and Healthcare practice provide a high-level review of some of the key issues and challenges associated with the new law, as well as the global implications of the move toward transparency.
