Judge Joseph A. Greenaway, Jr. brings a unique breadth and depth of experience to his clients, having served as a judge on both the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. While on the district court, Judge Greenaway wrote nearly 1,000 opinions across every substantive area of federal law and countless state law issues. During his tenure on that court, he presided over nearly 100 jury trials and numerous bench trials. As a Third Circuit Judge, he ruled on thousands of appeals and wrote over 100 precedential opinions. Judge Greenaway’s unique experience on the bench gives him a deep understanding of the full range of matters that come before the federal courts.
In his practice, Judge Greenaway represents Fortune 500 companies and individuals in all phases of complex commercial and criminal litigation, from pre-litigation advice, pre-trial motion practice, trial, post-trial motions, and appeals. Clients depend on Judge Greenaway to provide high-level strategic advice, including settlement negotiations. He also advises boards of directors and executives of public, private, and non-profit institutions in sensitive matters, including internal investigations and government investigations.
Clients often engage Judge Greenaway as an expert witness across a broad array of substantive areas, including as an expert in federal and New Jersey law. Judge Greenaway also handles arbitrations and mediations.
Earlier in his career, Judge Greenaway served as an in-house counsel at Johnson & Johnson. In that capacity, he was as a board lawyer for one of Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiaries, responsible for all agreements, litigation, and general corporate advice. In the litigation group, his practice focused on antitrust, employment law, as well as commercial and criminal litigation. Prior to his in-house role, Judge Greenaway was as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, where he served as the Chief of Narcotics.
