C. Scott Lent is the Chair of Arnold & Porter’s U.S. Antitrust/Competition practice group. He has extensive experience in handling antitrust litigation, investigational, transactional, and advisory matters across a wide range of industries, including media and entertainment, sports, telecommunications, building materials, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare. Scott is well-known for handling matters at the intersection of enforcement, regulation, and market structure.

Scott represents clients in complex litigation as well as civil and criminal investigations involving alleged price-fixing, tying, monopolization, no-poach agreements, price discrimination and other restraints of trade, including in class actions. A significant aspect of his practice involves preparing for and coordinating the defense of civil litigation that proceeds in parallel with, or follows, government competition investigations, requiring seamless alignment of litigation strategy, regulatory engagement, and business priorities.

On the transactional side, Scott manages all aspects of antitrust-related issues arising from mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures. He represents clients before the Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, State Attorneys General and foreign regulators, guiding them through the regulatory approval process and advising on strategies to address agency scrutiny.

Scott also regularly counsels clients on day-to-day antitrust and competition issues, including compliance with antitrust statutes, competitor collaborations, unilateral conduct, and the implementation of proposed business strategies.

In addition, Scott heads the firm’s Sports Law Practice and regularly advises sports leagues, teams, and labor organizations on complex investigatory, litigation, and transactional matters.

Clients consistently recognize Scott for his practical approach and sound judgment. According to Chambers USA, he “has a lot of practical expertise and focuses on real risks,” is “always right, has good judgment and has his finger on the pulse,” and “has credibility with the antitrust regulators and provides practical advice,” while also being “extremely responsive.”
