More Guilty Verdicts in E-waste Cases Suggest Emerging Enforcement Trend

Following the first-ever guilty verdict in January 2013 in an electronic waste (e-waste) recycling case, criminal enforcement authorities in the United States and Canada have initiated additional cases against companies for violating environmental laws governing e-waste. While attempts to pass comprehensive federal e-waste legislation have stalled in Congress, this wave of recent cases suggests e-waste management may be under increased scrutiny and that federal officials are actively enforcing existing requirements.
