November 2, 2011

Tower 42 25 Old Broad Street

EC2N 1HQ
England

The Solicitor General, Edward Garnier QC MP of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), will be joined by Arnold & Porter partner Kathleen Harris, former head of the Fraud Business Group at the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) for an informal discussion on the pros and cons of a Deferred Prosecution Agreement.

The Solicitor General will explain the Governments new proposals for introducing a form of Deferred Prosecution Agreement to strengthen its armoury in enforcing against complex economic crime. In summary, it will allow corporates to settle cases earlier and limit reputational risks. No decisions have yet been made but it is possible that a formal consultation paper will be published in the next few months. As part of its deliberations the Government is keen informally to discuss these issues with leading practitioners.
