Bellinger, Jeffress, Witten Quoted in National Media on Arrest and Extradition of Julian Assange

Arnold & Porter attorneys John B. Bellinger, III, Amy Jeffress, and Samuel Witten were quoted in the media discussing Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who was arrested at the Embassy of Ecuador in London on April 11, 2019.

Witten, a former senior legal and policy official with the US Department of State, was quoted in Newsweek explaining the extradition process as "the legal framework" for determining whether an individual can be surrendered from one country to the other to face trial or prosecution.

Bellinger, who heads the firm's Global Law and Public Policy practice and formerly held several senior Presidential appointments in the US government, was featured on NPR's All Things Considered podcast discussing the US-UK extradition treaty in relation to Assange's case. In POLITICO, Bellinger explains the extradition treaty’s exclusion of "political offenses" and its ramifications for Assange's defense.

Jeffress, a former Justice Department legal attaché in London, was quoted in The Washington Post and ABC News on the expected length of Assange's extradition to the US. She was also featured in an interview on PBS NewsHour examining the implications of the specific computer fraud charge Assange faces, and discussed his past bail violation with Buzzfeed News.
