Peter Schildkraut Discusses AI Regulations in the U.S. and Abroad in Bloomberg Law
Peter Schildkraut, co-leader of the firm’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications industry team, recently contributed his thoughts to Bloomberg Law's article, "Companies Look to Jumble of AI Rules in Absence of US Direction." The article examined how AI companies in the U.S. are facing increasing regulatory uncertainty as they attempt to comply with a mix of state laws and international regulations in the absence of a unified federal framework.
While the Trump administration has signaled a deregulatory approach to AI, U.S. companies operating internationally must still navigate stringent foreign compliance requirements. Schildkraut noted that the Trump order doesn’t change what U.S. companies have to do to sell or deploy AI systems in the European Union. And many U.S. companies are now in the scope of the EU AI Act, the world’s most comprehensive AI regulatory law whose first major provisions took effect this month.
